The story of Oded Ronen –
From Hell to Mission

Since October 7th, Oded Ronen’s life has been fundamentally transformed. Most of his energy is dedicated to supporting the rebuilding the lives of those directly impacted — first and foremost, the families of the hostages. At the same time, he carries a deep concern for the future of the country, and for the essential need to protect Israeli democracy in this crucial moment.

Following the massacre, Oded joins the creation of the Missing Persons Center at Expo Tel Aviv and leads the “Special Cases” team — a unit that works to locate, investigate, and identify missing individuals, piecing together endless fragments of documentation to determine who is alive, wounded, kidnapped, or murdered.

From this experience emerges The Missings — a powerful dance-theatre work created in Germany with the Tanztheater Ulm ballet company. The work combines world class contemporary dance, documentary elements, recorded conversations, and animation. It brings to the stage the raw journey of reckoning with absence, sorrow, and the desperate attempt to uncover the fate of thousands of missing persons. At its core, it expresses a profound human connection — between volunteers at the center and civilians from the Gaza border whom they've never met.

Alongside the artistic work, Oded embarks on a global outreach journey, sharing both his personal story and the spirit of Israeli civil resilience in testimony meetings with Jewish and Israeli communities in Australia, Colombia, and Argentina.

Throughout these journeys, he touches the hearts of the communities and connects people to values of shared humanity, care for others, and mutual responsibility — precisely in a time of global uncertainty.

Oded works with a method called Imagery in Motion — a unique approach using physical imagery as a tool to bridge deep emotional processing with artistic excellence. The dancers in the company, none of them Israeli, are drawn fully into the story, form together with the viewer an immediate and personal connection to its emotional core.

“If it happened to them – it happened to us. Their fate – is our fate.”

This is not just the feeling while watching the piece.

This has turned into the heartbeat of life.
